Hey friends!
I can't believe that it's already been a week since my last post...I've been kind of busy! Here are a few highlights of the past week or so.
1. SPANISH MASS
I went to Spanish mass for the first time (in the US, that is)! I didn't wake up early enough for the 8am or 10am masses in English, so I decided to try out the Spanish mass. I am fluent in Spanish, so the only challenge was figuring out all the prayers and responses en español. I absolutely loved the sense of community in the Spanish mass, and I think I'll be going to a lot more of these 6pm masses!
2. DRIVING
I started driving! After I hit the 6 weeks post-surgery mark, I got back behind the wheel. Even though I don't have too many major responsibilities yet to justify driving around all the time, I feel a lot more independent. It's also nice to give my mom a break every once in a while and pick up my sister, or buy groceries, etc.
3. SURPRISE(S)
I got the best surprise ever! Karen and Colleen, two of my best friends from college who both live in Texas now, surprised me with a visit on Friday morning. This extremely elaborate surprise was orchestrated by my mom, my boyfriend, and of course, Karen and Colleen. I was so confused when I saw them standing in my back yard. Really confused. It was so great to spend an entire weekend with them! Lots of spa time, lots of girl talk, and lots of Sedona sightseeing ensued.
In my next post, I'll be writing about my heart surgery incision and my scar. Don't worry, I'll try to keep the creepy-crawly details to a minimum for my readers who are faint of heart.

It was great to read your story from a child's (adult) perspective. My daughter who is 2 1/2 was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS)and has underwent 5 open heart surgeries and 2 intestinal surgeries due to the complications from her heart. I truly hope she is just as sassy, fun-loving, and positive as you are about your whole experience. We LOVE PCH and would never go anywhere else! They have some of the best surgeons, nurses, and care teams that we have ever come across! I am glad everything went well for you and god bless you through all of your future endeavors.

While I can relate to going through one open heart surgery, I can't imagine going through five, especially at such a young age... your girl is such a fighter. I'm sure as she grows up, she'll come understand what a gift she has been given, and also what a gift she is to those around her! Thanks for listening, reading, and affirming my journey.
