I am the 1%

I am the 1%.

About 1 out of every 100 babies are born each year with some type of Congenital Heart Defect*.

I was blessed to see 22 birthdays, & I plan on celebrating many more, thanks in no small part to all my doctors and nurses.

The cake I made for the 6 month anniversary of my open heart surgery
But not every kid is that lucky. This year, approximately 4,000 babies will not live to see their first birthday because of Congenital Heart Defects*.

It was fun being a 22-year old in a children's hospital...
but it shouldn't be that way.

Even though CHDs are formed in the womb, there is a huge need for increased awareness. It is a proven fact that the earlier CHD is detected and treated, it is more likely the affected child will survive and have less long term health complications*.
